Medicare Basics
Medicare is health insurance for people 65 and older. It helps cover hospital stays, doctor visits, and medicines. It has several parts, outlined below:
Part A: Hospital Insurance (Offered by the Federal Medicare program)
Part B: Medical Insurance (Offered by the Federal Medicare program)
Part C: Medicare Advantage Plans (Offered by private insurance companies to administer your Part A, Part B, and sometimes Part D coverages)
Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage (Offered by private insurance companies)
Medigap: Also called Medicare Supplement (Offered by private insurance companies)
Why Medicare Matters
